What is a quadrat?
A quadrat is a wooden or metal square frame usually 50cm X 50cm. It is used to find the number of plants of a particular type in a habitat.
How is a quadrat used?
The quadrat is placed randomly and the number of individual plants present inside the frame is counted. The position of the quadrat must not be chosen by the investigator, the area being surveyed is usually divided into a grid, co-ordinates are then selected by a random number generator.
